Kabul Serena Hotel is a luxury hotel in downtown Kabul, Afghanistan. It is set in landscaped gardens, overlooking the city's famous Zarnegar Park. Originally built in 1945, the hotel has been completely refurbished and extended in recent years, reopening on November 8, 2005. The main work for the hotel was given to the Aga Khan Foundation and thus it was inaugurated by Aga Khan IV[1][2] It has been the target of terrorist attacks in January 2008 and in March 2014.[3]

Today the hotel has 177 rooms and suites. It has several restaurants include the Café Zarnegar serving Afghan cuisine, the Wild Rice fine-dining restaurant serving South-East Asian cuisine, the Serena Pastry Shop, serving home-made breads, cakes and patisseries and the Char Chata Lounge. The hotel also includes Maisha Spa & Health Club, offering a fitness centre, a steam room, a sauna, and outdoor heated swimming pool.

Serena Hotels is a hospitality company which operates up-scale hotels and resorts in East Africa, Southern Africa and South Asia.

Serena comprises a collection of 36 luxury resorts, safari lodges, and hotels, which are located in East Africa (Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda, and Mozambique) and Central and South Asia (Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Tajikistan).

The Serena Hotels Group trades under the name Tourism Promotion Services (TPS Serena). The company is listed on the Nairobi Stock Exchange (NSE), where it trades under the symbol TPS. The largest shareholder (45%) is the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development (AKFED), with a further 4% owned by the Aga Khan University Foundation.[1] As of November 2011, the group has 25 properties in Africa, in the countries of Kenya, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda. The Group also maintains 11 properties in three Asian countries of Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Tajikistan.[2]

Among its prominent hotels are the Islamabad Serena Hotel and the Kabul Serena Hotel.[3]
